If you have already experienced a broken marriage, I totally understand your pain.
When your second marriage is running into trouble, Ugh, well me too.
Christians are at just as much risk for a second divorce as non-Christians. Moreover, Christians are more likely to question if God wants your second marriage to even be restored.
Does God want my marriage to be restored?
The one lie that Satan will project on anyone that has gone through marriage and divorce is that divorce is the only sin that Christ did not die for on the cross.
Satan wants to steal, kill, and destroy your relationship with God. ( John 10:10) The deceiver will convince you that because you are divorced there is no hope for you.
Therefore your new marriage is without merit and not worth being restored.
That my friend is a lie!
God wants you to be committed in this marriage and seek restoration for that marriage. Marriage is hard and God hates divorce. You have committed to someone. You have brought two families together as one. It is a resounding YES that God wants to restore and heal your marriage.
How do I let God heal my marriage?
When reality starts to set in and the blended marriage is not what you thought it was going to look like, where do you turn? It may be easy to go to our friends or other outside influences that are far from godly. Resist the temptation to go there first.
You may also find that godly influences who have not experienced divorce and remarriage are not always the right source for encouragement. They may not understand the struggles of a blended family and marriage.
GOD, who should be the foundation of your marriage is where you should go first and foremost. He delights in a marriage that can be restored. He delights in his children building foundation principles that will help the next generation.
You can access Creating a blended family that lasts here for foundation principles that work.
God wants us to break the cycle of divorce and remarriage. It starts with your marriage ( no matter how many at this time ).
Before you start praying for God to heal or mend your marriage you must first trust God’s mercy and grace.
Trusting God in all curcumstances.
If your marriage is struggling, you are not alone. Even those that have been married to the same person struggle in marriage. Trusting that God can heal a struggling marriage is what separates most.
The first step in trusting God is coming to him with a humble heart. The Bible tells us that he will lift us up if we come before him with humility.
The scriptures also tell us that with a humble spirit then we receive grace. (3 x’s in the Bible )
Both you and your spouse are not perfect. The promise of God to exalt both of you in a troubled marriage should fill you with hope. Trust him through the powerful process of prayer. Trusting in God through all circumstances is a promise in scripture.
Bible verses about trusting in God.
You can renew your marriage by putting your hope in the Lord. Here are just a few of the Bible Verses about trusting in the Lord.
Lord my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me. Psalm 30:2
‘Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’ Jeremiah 33:3
For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all who call upon You. Psalm 86:5
God is always there and promises never to forsake us. We just have to walk in humility. Asking for his help and wisdom through the ups and downs of marriage.
Hope for a restored marriage is a prayer away. Trusting God means handing over the reins of your marriage to God. God can guide you both through compassion, love, and mercy.
Then you must pray for your spouse with faith that God will restore your marriage.
How do I pray for my spouse?
One of the easiest things that we can do is pray for our spouse. We can pour out our hearts to the Lord and find comfort in peace by praying for our spouse.
A marriage that is in need of restoration, means you start praying for your spouse now!
Your marriage is doing great, awesome, that means you still start praying for your spouse now!
Not sure how to start praying for your spouse? You can start by building on the prayer below. Cover your spouse in prayer daily. If you are seeking God’s will for your marriage God will hear your prayers.
This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.1 John 5:14
A Prayer for unforgiveness towards my spouse
Harboring unforgiveness for something your spouse has done to you or said can hinder your prayers for your spouse. Forgiveness from each other takes time and lots of continuous prayers. The scriptures are pretty specific as to God’s promises to forgive you as to the measure in which you can forgive others. This also applies to your marriage.
Unforgiveness creates a void that we often fill with anger. Unforgiveness will always stand in the way of fixing a troubled marriage.
Struggling to forgive your spouse means praying this prayer below daily until the spirit of unforgiveness is gone.
War room prayer for your spouse.
War room prayers should never be the last resort for your spouse. They should be the first line of attack. However, there is a caveat.
The minute you are in warfare to save your marriage the smoke signals go up and the deceiver sends his army into battle to destroy your trust in God. You must continue to pray prayers of protection on your spouse as the battle lines are drawn when you are down on your knees.
War room prayers are a powerful way to ensure that the enemy does not have a way to destroy your marriage.
A prayer for your spouse to have a heart for the children and stepchildren.
I wish I could say that I have always had this type of prayer in my heart. The truth it has sometimes been the last resort.
Blending families is difficult, and the love we have for our one child can overshadow the feelings of like we have for our stepchildren. There is no need to reenact the Cinderella story with her horrible stepmother and stepsisters. We just need to pray for the heart of our spouses to love both their children and stepchildren.
Prayer for my spouse to accept God’s grace
Deep problems in a struggling marriage can be rooted in the acceptance that whatever has happened in the previous marriage can be and will be forgiven by God. 1 John 1:9 tells us that if we confess our sins, God is just and will forgive us and purify us. Can we have just let out a big sigh of relief?
The truth is Satan wants to destroy our faith in God’s forgiveness. We must be in prayer for our spouse that those past sins will not rise up and destroy your spouses’ ability to move forward in your marriage.
The struggle that we are having here on earth will all be gone when Christ comes back.
Joy comes from knowing that God did not leave us with no way out to temper the pain and struggles even when the consequences were from our own sin.
Trouble marriages can be healed. It does not matter how long your marriage has been in need of repair. God asks that we apply the same principles of prayer in other matters of our life to our struggling marriage.
Do not give up hope my friend, your marriage can be healed.
I have linked these prayers into scripture cards for you to use in prayer. Yes, you can pray with your eyes wide open.
Because he loved me first,
